Derby County are still waiting for Chris Kirchner's takeover to finally go through after months of negotiations.

It's now believed to be at the final stage, but fans won't take anything for granted until it's finally confirmed, which will then give them hope for the future after a tough year.

Boss Wayne Rooney has already been in contact with the American businessman, so he will be working on plans to put in place when the deal is complete.

Bringing in a host of new players will be the priority and the Rams have been linked with many names, including Aden Flint.

The centre-back is set to be a free agent as his deal with Cardiff runs down, and here we outline THREE reasons why Rooney must do all he can to convince the 32-year-old to move to Pride Park...

He can help the younger players

Everyone knows that Derby have been relying on many young players this season, who will have undoubtedly benefited from this experience.

However, it's clear they need more experience too, which Flint will help with. He's someone who has played at all levels in the Football League and knows what's required in this division.

Having someone with that experience will be crucial to the younger players in the dressing room, like it was with Curtis Davies this season.

It's an area they need to strengthen

Next up, like most positions in truth, it's an area of the pitch that Rooney needs to strengthen.

There is Championship interest in the out-of-contract Davies and losing Phil Jagielka in January was a blow too. So, you would expect multiple centre-backs to come through the door, with Flint sure to improve the squad if he signs.

He has won promotion from League One before

Finally, as mentioned, Flint is an experienced figure but he is also a player who has won promotion from League One in the past.

The towering centre-back was incredibly good for Bristol City in the third tier, scoring 14 times as they went up in the 14/15 campaign. Admittedly, he's not going to match those numbers again, but to have someone who knows how to get over the line and do the job will be welcome for Rooney.
