Derby County are on the lookout for a new manager, with Sam Allardyce confirming that he is interested in returning to football.

Whilst the former England chief didn't name the Rams specifically, he revealed he is willing to listen to any offers that come his way, and he didn't rule out working in the Championship.

Given his CV, that got some Derby fans talking on Twitter, with some feeling he would be a good fit at Pride Park, even though Wayne Rooney has impressed in the past week.

Here we outline THREE reasons why the East Midlands club should act swiftly to bring Allardyce in...

He is proven

Firstly, and most importantly, Derby would be getting a manager that delivers results.

Admittedly, there are some valid criticisms of Allardyce's style, but there can be no debates about his results. He has won promotion from the Championship before, so he knows what this league is all about.

You can never guarantee anything in football, but Allardyce has consistently achieved the targets he has been set.

He will make them stronger defensively

In fairness, Rooney has done this, but Allardyce would ensure Derby have a solid base.

They have conceded 22 goals this season, which isn't good enough. Some will argue scoring at the other end is the major issue, which it is, but that is down to personnel; a new striker is needed in January.

In the meantime, Allardyce will bring a solidity, so scoring one or two will get points on the board.

He could establish them in the top-flight

At 66, and given his recent history, you wouldn't view Allardyce as a long-term appointment. However, he can be, because he is proven in the Premier League.

The ex-Sunderland boss' success with Bolton, taking them to the top-flight and keeping them there for years, is what Derby want.
