Derby County are on the lookout for a new manager and Roberto Di Matteo is believe to be under consideration for the role.

The Italian, who is best known for winning the Champions League with Chelsea, is out of work and the Daily Mail have stated that he is a name the Rams are looking at.

Phillip Cocu was sacked by Derby on Saturday night after a disastrous start to the season, which has seen the team pick up just six points from 11 games. As a result, they are bottom of the table.

Therefore, finding the right man to succeed Cocu is crucial and here we outline THREE reasons why Di Matteo shouldn't be considered...

He has been out of the game for some time

The 50-year-old's last stint in management came four years ago with Villa and it didn't go well. And, it makes you wonder why he hasn't been involved for such a long time.

Given the way his time in the West Midlands ended, you would have expected Di Matteo to want to prove himself quickly to show that was not him. Instead, he hasn't had a job and Derby need someone motivated and eager to take the club out of the relegation zone.

He struggled in the Championship with Aston Villa

We should mention that Di Matteo won promotion with West Brom from this level in 2010 but his most recent spell in the Championship is hugely concerning.

Working at Villa, a club with huge expectation, he failed to deliver despite significant backing. The players didn't seem happy with his management and he was sacked pretty swiftly.

Derby don't need to take a risk

Di Matteo has done well in certain jobs, so if he was appointed it wouldn't be a ridiculously bad decision.

But, given Derby's position, they shouldn't take such a risk. Plus, there are a host of better candidates available.
