Coventry City are off to a flying start this season and Mark Robins' players are playing some good football to go along with it.

Mark Robins has been in charge at Coventry for over two years now and has so far done well with what he has got at his disposal.

In his first full season at the club, Robins guided Coventry back to League One after beating Exeter City in the play-off final.

The following season Robins led the Sky Blues to eighth in their first season back in League One, finishing only eight points outside of the play-offs and now this season, Coventry sit fifth after 11 games and will be looking to go that one step further and chance their arm at the play-offs.

There is no denying the impact Mark Robins has had at Coventry since he arrived and with rumours of Sunderland planning a swoop for Robins, here are three reasons why Coventry should stand their ground...

Play-off rival

Just like Coventry, Sunderland will be hoping to make the play-offs this season after their Wembley heartbreak last season which saw them lose to a last minute goal against Charlton Athletic.

Coventry should hold firm because if Robins leaves for the Black Cats then this could heavily impact their chances of making the play-offs ,as Coventry may find it difficult to adapt to a new manager and new style of play.

The direct challenge for the play-offs looms as if it may involve these two sides and Coventry will want to have the best chance possible of getting there.

Constantly Improving

Since Mark Robins took over at Coventry, the only way has been up.

With a promotion from League Two followed by an eighth placed finish, Coventry are constantly improving under Robins.

Now sat in the League One play-off places after picking up great wins against the likes of Bristol Rovers and Blackpool, they are showing great signs of improvement because if Robins stays and leads them to play-off position, Coventry will have improved year on year since Robins' arrival, which is important for any club.

Key players may leave

Should Robins depart for Sunderland, he may want to bring in his own players which could spell bad news for Coventry.

With how much success Robins has had with his current crop of players, he may want to take a few with him to help him with his new promotion challenge at Sunderland.

Players such as Liam Kelly and Jordy Hiwula are vital for Coventry and losing these calibre of players would certainly hinder any sort of play-off challenge they may have.
