After a mixed start to the campaign, Derby County are starting to adapt to life under Phillip Cocu and head into the weekend game at Charlton unbeaten in five.

Despite that, many observers still believe that January will be crucial to the Rams if they want to make the top six - it's clear they are short in key areas.

And, one man many fans would love to see back at Pride Park is Matej Vydra, going by the responses to a tweet about him from the club yesterday.

The 27-year-old is having a tough time of things at Burnley and here we look at THREE reasons why he would be the perfect recruit for Derby in the New Year...

He's sure to be available

As mentioned, things aren't going to plan for Vydra at Turf Moor. He is way down the pecking order under Sean Dyche, evident by the fact he has made just one substitute appearance in the league so far.

So, the Clarets would surely be open to moving him on if a suitable offer comes in and the chance to play regularly again will appeal to the forward.

He is proven at this level

If the ex-Watford man did return to the east Midlands, Derby would be getting a player who has proven himself at this level.

Vydra hit 21 goals in 42 games in his last season in the Championship and he has also delivered with Watford too in the second tier.

Whilst goals aren't a major problem right now for the Rams, having another quality option is not going to do any harm.

He should suit Cocu's style of play

Another reason why Vydra would be a superb addition is because he is exactly the sort of player that could thrive under Cocu.

The Dutchman wants his side to play out from the back, build up and have forwards who drop between the lines and link play. That should suit Vydra, who clearly isn't suited to the direct approach at Burnley.
