Birmingham City are expected to be very busy this summer, as Lee Bowyer looks to reshape the squad following what has been a poor season.

Arguably the lowest point came against Blackpool over the Easter period, where Blues were hammered 6-1, and it highlighted just how much work needs to be done in the window.

One player who could be arriving at St. Andrew's is Matija Sarkic, with reports claiming Blues have enquired about signing the keeper on a permanent basis.

He will be known to supporters having spent the first half of the season on loan, where he impressed, keeping ten clean sheets in 23 before injury cut short his campaign.

And, here we outline THREE reasons why Sarkic would be an excellent addition for Blues...

He has proven himself at this level

Even though it was his first real spell in the Championship, the Montenegro international proved this season that he is good enough to play at this level.

As mentioned, his clean sheet record was superb for Blues and many fans will tell you he was one of the standout players during the first few months.

With that in mind, you'd have to say he is better than what they've got.

He knows the setup

Following on from that, the usual risk that comes with any transfer is reduced here because Sarkic knows the club.

He formed a good understanding with the defenders in front of him and he is someone that Bowyer trusts, which was evident by the fact he always played.

So, if Sarkic did return, he could effortlessly slot back into the XI and wouldn't need time to settle.

He can be a long-term solution

Finally, at 24-years-old, Sarkic could be the long-term answer for Blues.

The club aren't going to be in a position to splash the cash this summer, so they need to be smart in how they recruit.

Identifying young players who can improve, rise in value and contribute to the team is the way to go, and Sarkic ticks all the boxes on that front.
