Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel will be pleased with his side's start to the season, as they target an immediate return to the Championship, following relegation in last years campaign.

The Tykes are currently sat 6th in the League One table and will be hoping to kick-on over the festive period, which will give a clear indication as to where they will finish this season.

One player who has been pivotal in their promotion push is Brad Potts, who already has six goals and three assists to his name in the league and he is likely to be a man in demand in January when the transfer window reopens.

But one man who could replace him as Reading winger, Callum Harriott who certainly has a point to prove, providing he can put his injury troubles behind him.

Harriott is yet to feature in the last two seasons for the Royals due to injury, and he will be keen to rediscover the type of form that saw him earn a move to Reading from Charlton earlier in his career.

Harriott would be the perfect replacement to Potts if he was to depart from Oakwell in January.

We look at the reasons why, here......

Harriott has only made 16 appearances in total for Reading and has spent more time in the treatment room, than on the pitch.

It's frustrating for Reading fans as he has shown glimpses of his quality in his limited appearances for the club, and he will be keen to put his injury woes behind him.

He'll want to prove that he can still hold his own at a high level, and a move to Barnsley could see him do exactly that.

Before moving to Berkshire, Harriott was a regular in the Charlton side in the Championship and was one of their standout players before leaving the Addicks.

His creativity made him a real threat going forward and he could arguably be playing at a higher level than League One, but if Barnsley are to challenge for an automatic promotion spot, then signing Harriott would mean they would be taken seriously.

It's no secret that Harriott has really struggled with injury problems in recent seasons, and that seems to have set him back.

But he will be keen to rediscover the form that he had shown when he first earned a move to Reading from Charlton and if he can do that, then he would be an excellent addition to Daniel Stendel's side.

Harriott would be the perfect replacement for Brad Potts if he departs the Tykes in January.
