Arsenal have been linked with a move for Charlton Athletic star Joe Aribo, according to a report from the Daily Star.

It's thought the Gunners are keen on adding Aribo to their ranks after watching him in action for the Addicks recently. The 22-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to leave the Valley.

He has been attracting interest from abroad, with both Benfica and Frankfurt mentioned in the report as rumoured to be looking at him.

The news he's being linked to the Emirates won't come as a surprise to the Charlton fans who have seen him flourish this season.

He joined them from Staines Town in 2015 and has since made 86 appearances, 26 of which have come this season as they've push on, into the play-off spots.

Arsenal's interest could mean he takes a similar route to the top flight as another English youngster, one of three reasons FLW believes this would be a strong signing for the Gunners.

Dele Alli

It's hard not to draw comparisons with Dele Alli.

He thrived in League One, made a move to North London, and has since become one of the county's most exciting young players.

Aribo could well tread the same pathway.

Homegrown Rule

Premier League clubs have to have eight 'homegrown' players in their squad of 25.

It doesn't mean they have to be English, merely that they must have been on the books of a Football League club for three years prior to turning 21.

Aribo fits that model.

Potential

Aside from the rules and the previous precedents, Aribo is an exciting player in his own right.

He's been pulling the strings for the Addicks, instrumental in Karlan Grant's form early in the season, as well as Lyle Taylor's goals.

He's got huge potential and could be a very astute signing for the Gunners.
