Speculation has been rife over the past few days about the future of Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth, who has been linked with a move away from the Chairboys to various destinations.

Millwall was the first destination that Ainsworth was rumoured to head to following Neil Harris' departure a couple of weeks ago and the 46 year-old could be on the Lions shortlist for the managerial vacancy, however the Lions may prefer Adam Barratt or Gary Rowett.

The next club that could be courting the former Wycombe midfielder could be Sunderland, who are searching for a new manager to take over the helm at the Stadium of Light following the departure of Scotsman Jack Ross.

Here, we look at three reasons why Ainsworth should stay and see things out at Wycombe...

Started a project with Wycombe

Ainsworth has very much started a project at Wycombe, and could be in with a shot of taking the Chairboys further if they continue to improve at the rapid rate that they already are.

The young manager has a lot of potential to take Wycombe forward in his own way, and he has the attributes already to compete with the very best in League One.

Won't be loved as much anywhere else

Ainsworth is being regarded as a club legend at Adams Park, after what he's done with the club that runs without an academy and has one of the lowest budgets in the league.

From his playing days to his management days, he has done a lot for the club and the rapport that Ainsworth has with the Wycombe faithful can't be replaced by any other club in the country no matter where the former QPR caretaker manager moved too.

Ainsworth has become a Wycombe legend in his own right, and he should be the one who takes Wycombe as far as he can.

Other opportunities could be a step backwards

Other opportunities that Ainsworth has been linked with, such as the Sunderland role, could be a step backwards for the manager. With Sunderland competing in the same league, then the move wouldn't be the greatest for Ainsworth if he is to better himself.

The other opportunity that Ainsworth has been linked with is Millwall, and a club that seem pretty content in finishing in mid-table all the time a league up again wouldn't be the best place for Ainsworth to go.

The man deserves a challenge, and he gets that at Wycombe.
