Sheffield Wednesday are on the lookout for a new manager after Steve Bruce left the club for Newcastle United.

The circumstances surrounding his exit are far from ideal and it has left the Owls in a very tricky position with the new campaign just a matter of weeks away.

However, the Hillsborough job is a clearly a very attractive one, with the Sheffield Star revealing that there have been over 100 applicants for the vacancy.

And, they also state that Tony Pulis is a leading contender for the role.

Whilst the 61-year-old my not be a popular choice given the direct style of play that he adopts, we look at THREE reasons why he might be the sensible option for Dejphon Chansiri…

He is available to take over immediately

Wednesday can’t afford for this to become a drawn out saga, they need a new manager in place as soon as possible.

The new season is nearly upon us and the transfer market closes in a matter of weeks as well.

So, they need someone in place to ensure he can get his ideas across and bring in the players he wants and with Pulis out of work they should be able to finalise a deal relatively swiftly.

He has a proven record

Even though his style of play brings criticism, few can argue with the results that Pulis produces.

His sides are always hard to beat and he has won promotion from the Championship before, whilst his record at keeping teams in the Premier League is superb.

His last job at Middlesbrough wasn’t spectacular but that won’t overshadow his impressive career on the whole.

He can operate under a budget

Another factor that has to be taken into consideration is how well Pulis can work with financial restrictions.

The Owls issues have been well-documented and whoever takes over will not be given a bid budget to turn the side into promotion contenders.

But, that won’t bother the former Stoke boss who will back himself to get the best out of whatever he is working with.
