Millwall and Derby County are amongst the Championship clubs that have been linked with a move for forward, Cameron Jerome.

Jerome is currently playing in the Turkish Super Lig with Goztepe, where he’s scored eight goals since making the move away from England.

Now, Turkish outlet A Spor has linked Derby with a reunion with Jerome, who featured for them during the second-half of the 2017/18 campaign. Additionally, Millwall and Swansea City also hold an interest in the 33-year-old.

Having previously spent time at Derby, a return to Pride Park might appeal to Jerome, but there’s perks of linking up with Millwall, who are currently managed by Gary Rowett.

With that in mind, we take a look at why Jerome should be snubbing a Derby reunion in favour of Millwall…

Gary Rowett

Rowett is the current Millwall boss and knows Jerome well.

He took the veteran striker to Pride Park back in 2018, with Jerome playing a key part as Derby reached the Championship play-offs.

Whilst Derby were the club he was at, things have changed at Pride Park, with Phillip Cocu looking to take the Rams in a different direction.

A familiar face, rather than club, might be the better idea.

Game time

You feel that Jerome would get more game time at Millwall than he would Derby.

Whilst Millwall are flying in the Championship and doing well, expectations are higher at Derby, with the calibre of player often greater.

You feel Jerome might be an underwhelming addition at Pride Park, but at Millwall, it wouldn’t be the case, with such a high-profile name

Style of play

If you look at Millwall’s current style, they often play to the strengths of Matt Smith, who has a similar stature to Jerome.

The 30-year-old has scored 11 goals so far this season for the Lions, including a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest recently.

Rowett is getting the best out of Smith, and given how his Millwall side are tailored to play – direct but also with the ability to play a bit – Jerome feels like he’d fit.
