Brentford have been luckless when it comes to transfers over the last few years, with the Griffin Park squad consistently picked apart by clubs with more financial backing in the Championship.

Right now, Neal Maupay, Ollie Watkins and Chris Mepham are probably the Bees’ most valuable players, but their teammate, Romaine Sawyers, is the man on the radar of a few Championship rivals.

According to Alan Nixon, there’s interest from promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion, with Darren Moore keen to add to his central midfield area.

The 27-year-old is also attracting interest from Aston Villa, though, with Dean Smith keen on a reunion with the midfielder he worked with at Griffin Park and Walsall.

There are still over two weeks of this window left and it’d be no surprise to see interest in Sawyers intensify as we approach February.

With that in mind, we take a look at THREE reasons why the player must snub West Brom in favour of Aston Villa…

Dean Smith

This is the most obvious place to start, with Sawyers working with Smith twice in his career already.

That trust between a player and manager can’t be underrated, with Smith knowing how to get the best out of the midfielder.

Sawyers will know how the manager works and what he wants, which makes him and Villa the perfect match.

Game Time

Ultimately, Sawyers is going to want to be playing consistently wherever he ends up.

Whilst Albion have just lost Harvey Barnes, there are doubts whether Sawyers would be an automatic starter at the Hawthorns.

Villa are light of at least one body in central midfield and Sawyers improves their options.

For us, he’d be in the mix alongside the likes of Jack Grealish.

Villa’s support

West Brom are a well supported club, but Villa’s fanbase follow the team in their thousands and are one of the biggest sides in the EFL.

For that reason, Sawyers might prefer them.

Of course, promotion is more likely with West Brom, but the support Sawyers would receive at Villa could be a big factor.

If he could help them progress and eventually win promotion, he'd be a club legend.
