Charlton Athletic defender Patrick Bauer has been linked with a move away from the League One club, with Blackburn Rovers ready to reignite their summer interest according to the Lancashire Telegraph.
The 26-year-old has played 29 times for Lee Bowyer’s side this season, seeing them climb into the top six in the division and remain there.
They’ve got a nine point cushion over the chasing pack and are seemingly set for a play-off assault once the normal season has ended.
Bauer, a 6ft 3in central defender, is yet to sign a new deal at the Valley and it’s looking increasingly likely that he won’t be doing so, making him a free agent at the end of the season.
He’s one of several Charlton stars out of contract and yet to commit their future to the club, having made over 110 starts since moving to South London from Portuguese side Marítimo.
He’s got a big decision to make in the coming weeks and month, but there’s benefits to him staying put and helping the Addicks press on, as we explore below.
There’s no guarantee that a move will bring regular football.
Bauer is a good defender and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t move, but it presents challenges.
Would he settle outside of London? Would the Blackburn approach suit him?
At least at Charlton he is settled and comfortable.
Loved By Fans
He’s adored by the Charlton fans, both for his committed displays and for snubbing moves in the summer to remain at the club.
That’s important, it affords you breathing space after a bad game or a misplaced pass.
That shouldn’t be under estimated.
Whilst they’re in League One now, Charlton are a top flight club in the waiting.
They’ve played in the Premier League and have the ground and fan base to do so again.
There’s little to choose between them and Blackburn and if they do go up, Bauer wouldn’t be gaining anything by jumping ship.
