Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has admitted his side were keen to take Mo Eisa to the Valley this transfer window, but missed out as Bristol City failed to land their own targets.

The Addicks boss lost Karlan Grant to Huddersfield as the window edged shut, but was unable to recruit anyone in time to replace the departing youngster. Eisa was top of the list, but as he explained to South London Press and Mercury why the deal couldn't be pushed over the line.

“He [Eisa] was one we were looking to bring in. Bristol were trying hard to bring someone in. There was a Championship club trying to take him as well but he said he wanted to come here, we were his first choice.

“He would’ve been a good replacement for Karlan in terms of the similarities between the two of them, but it just didn’t happen."

Eisa would have represented a great coup for Charlton, the striker bagged 23 goals in 45 outings for Cheltenham last season, earning him a £1.5m switch to Bristol City. He's only made five appearances for them so far in the Championship and needs game time to develop.

Here's THREE reasons why Mo Eisa would have significantly boosted Charlton's push for a League One promotion spot...

Goals

Eisa deals in goals. He bagged 50 for Greenwich before his step up to Cheltenham and then proved he could bring his skills up to the Football League with a sensational season for the Robins.

Lyle Taylor needs a partner and Eisa would have benefitted from regular game time one level above what he is used to. He would surely have thrived and kept the Addicks on course for a top six spot.

Replacement for Grant

Charlton would loved to have replaced Grant, not least because they loaned Nicky Ajose to Mansfield Town as he was seen as surplus to requirements.

Bringing in Eisa would have given their squad a fuller feel, but they're now going into the second half of the season arguably weaker than they were.

Hunger and Desire

Eisa is 24 and has a point to prove. He's come to professional football a little later than he might have liked and he can't afford to be languishing in the reserves of a Championship side.

His desire to make something of himself, coming from Sudan to England, would have driven him on in the red of Charlton. He's a player desperate to make something of his life and that would have shone through in his efforts.
