Mallik Wilks is a player that Leeds United rate highly, with the forward recently handed a contract extension to keep him at Elland Road until at least the summer of 2022.

Leeds isn’t where Wilks is earning his latest plaudits, though, with the forward out on loan with Doncaster Rovers.

The 20-year-old is seriously impressing for the Yorkshire outfit in League One, and has scored an impressive 10 goals across all competitions, as well as registering seven assists.

That 10th goal of the season came on Saturday as Doncaster drew 1-1 with Portsmouth, with Leeds’ supporters keeping a watchful eye on how the youngster is progressing across Yorkshire.

Many of Leeds’ academy graduates are making good progress in the first-team under Marcelo Bielsa and there’s no reason why Wilks can’t do that next season.

Here’s a look at THREE reasons why Wilks can have an impact at Elland Road in 2019/20…

The progress Wilks is making

At the start of the season Wilks wasn’t ready to be part of Leeds’ first-team, but we are starting to see some real progress from the forward.

He’s scoring goals and showing how productive he can be.

Of course, he’s at a lower level than Leeds now, but goalscorers score goals at whatever level they are at.

Those at Elland Road will have noted this progress.

Wilks’ pace

Leeds are lacking real pace in their side, minus Jack Clarke.

Wilks has plenty of pace and would add something different to their attacking setup under Bielsa.

He’s direct with his pace, which results in goals.

That could be invaluable.

Bielsa gives youth a chance

The Leeds head-coach isn’t afraid to throw youngsters in, no matter how high the stakes are.

He’s done that with Clarke, Jamie Shackleton and Aapo Halme this season, and no matter what division Leeds are in next season, if Bielsa feels Wilks is ready, he will play.

It’s looking like he could be ready and the Argentine could give him his chance.
