West Bromwich Albion pulled off one of the results of the season last weekend when they systematically dismantled Leeds United at the Hawthorns on Saturday evening.

Darren Moore’s side went 4-0 up after a clinical and dominant performance set a prescient or their efforts this season and moved them back into the top six ahead of the international break.

The Baggies were on top for the majority of the match and deservedly took the lead after 51 minutes when former Wales international, Hal Robson-Kanu scored his third goal of the season on what was only his second start.

The striker was a presence throughout his 80 minutes on the pitch and game the Baggies a different option to Dwight Gayle, who returned to the bench after a short period out injured.

West Brom’s 29-year-old striker put a shift in and was a threat throughout the match that ended in the thrashing of former league leaders Leeds.

With that said here are three reasons West Brom’s unlikely hero in Robson-Kanu can guide them to promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Physically, he’s a mountain and a presence - that is something that West Brom do not have in their other strikers like Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle.

He gives them a different dimension, and he was a better partner for Rodriguez instead of Bakary Sako.

Holding the ball up in the final third to bring players like his strike partner and Harvey Barnes is vital, and it worked to a point at the weekend.

The 29-year-old has Premier League and Championship experience and can use that to calm the Baggies’ side down during matches in order for them to see out fixtures and stay level-headed throughout their promotion push.

You can never underestimate the power of the experience one individual can have on a team, and he has been there and done it, and could be a help to Darren Moore’s side as the season progresses.

West Brom have a solid blend of youth and experience and the more of the latter with knowledge of how the league works when the pressure is on, the better.

Hal Robson-Kanu had two chances on goal in the weekend win and managed to score once.

That should show that when he wants to and is up for a game, he can be clinical in front of goal.

He has three goals in two starts this season - with a further 12 appearances from the bench - which shows he is more effective from the beginning of matches.
