For much of the season, the automatic promotion race in League Two has seemingly been a closed shop.

Lincoln City have led for most of the season with MK Dons and Mansfield on their tail. Bury have stormed through the pack since Christmas to establish themselves too, but to many it seemed to be a four-horse race.

As Tranmere Rovers creep up the table, they might be a serious prospect for the final automatic promotion spot.

Both Mansfield and MK Dons have dropped points recently, but Micky Mellon's side have quietly gone about their business to move within five points of the top four with a game in hand.

Can they force themselves into contention? Last year's National League play-off winners have a great chance for successive promotions as we explain below.

James Norwood

It might be obvious, but when you have a forward who has bagged 24 goals in a season, you have a chance to win games.

Norwood is a game changer, a player who will always pop up with something when needed.

With him in their side, they're liable to shock anyone.

Their Run In

If you want to be promoted, you have to beat the teams around you.

Having to play teams at the top might be a curse, but it makes lots of games very, very important.

Tranmere still have Lincoln, Bury and MK Dons to play above them, as well as Colchester, Carlisle and Forest Green in three of the four places below them.

That's six matches that could be classed as six pointer. Win five of them and they'll be right in the mix.

Great Form

They're top of the six game form table, winning five and drawing one.

The end of a season is a great time to hit form and whilst the two teams above them are fifth (MK Dons) and eighth (Mansfield) in the form stakes, Tranmere are coming into form at the right time.

Nobody will want to play the Super White Army right now.
