It has been quite an interesting period for Reading Football Club in this transfer window so far.

Earlier this summer, Reading fans learnt that the club had been placed under a soft transfer embargo. This sanction has been enforced by the EFL because the Royals have been in breach of their profit and sustainability rules.

With this transfer ban, the Berkshire side are limited in what they can do in the transfer market in terms of getting players in, until they ship more players out.

The club have already acted to do this and several more players are likely to leave before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Things may be a tad doom and gloom at the Madejski Stadium at this moment in time. However, there are things that will make the Royals excited for the upcoming season.

Here’s three reasons why Reading fans might be getting excited for the 2019/20 campaign.

The exodus that's happening this summer can give the Royals a fresh start

It's clear that Reading needed to take action in order to address the issue of the soft transfer ban. Paul McShane, Joey Van den Berg, Anssi Jaakkola, John O'Shea, Callum Harriott and Danzell Gravenberch have all been released by the club on the expiration of their contracts.

All six loanees that stayed with the Royals until the end of last season have also gone back to their parent clubs. Even though the Royals didn't pay 100% of the loanees' wages, this combined with the release of the players mentioned above has gone a long way to clearing wages off the books at the Madejski Stadium.

This will give Reading a fresh start and will allow the EFL to give Reading the green light to bring players in to the Berkshire club.

Faith is being put in youth players

Reading's academy is one of the finest in the country. They have produced many good players over the years, most notably Gylfi Sigurdsson who's a regular player at Everton now.

The club has continued to produce talented players and they will be needed this season if Reading are to do well. Tom McIntyre could play a key role in the Royals' central defence next season.

In the attacking department, Michael Olise, Danny Loader and Josh Barrett are all in contention to be in Jose Gomes' matchday 18 next season.

Andy Rinomhota was the player of the season in the last campaign and this will give great confidence to Reading fans that other younger players will also be able to step up to the mark for the upcoming season. They could be a vital part to Gomes' plans.

The club are likely to get better value for money with future players - expect better performances next season

During Ron Gourlay's tenure as CEO, Reading were known for paying inflated prices for players, giving out generous contracts and not receiving enough in players sales.

This is the main reason why Reading are now under a soft transfer embargo. Their finances have plummeted in recent years under Gourlay. Employing Gourlay has been owner Dai Yongge's biggest mistake yet.

However, with Nigel Howe back as CEO, Reading are likely to be more careful with their transfer targets and are more likely to get better value for money with future player. The successful loan signings they recruited under Howe in January is one example of that.
