Young Reading midfielder Michael Olise has extended his stay at the Royals until the summer of 2022, after signing a professional contract out in Spain.

This is a move by the club which has been praised by the fans, with the 17-year-old impressing Reading fans with his mature performances both on the wing and in the centre of midfield last season.

At the end of last season, Olise went off to represent France in the Toulon Tournament before re-joining the Royals earlier on in the summer. He now seems like an integral part of Jose Gomes' squad as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

This new contract could be the catalyst for more younger players like Danny Loader and Gabriel Osho to extend their contracts beyond the summer of 2020.

Here's three reasons why Olise's contract extension is a masterstroke for Reading Football Club.

It raises his valuation

At just 17 years old and playing in the second tier of English football, Olise is has already bumped up his value.

Before he signed this recent deal, Olise could have left Reading at the end of the season for free, with his previous contract ending in the summer of 2020.

Reading currently don't have the capability to sign a number of players because of their struggles with Financial Fair Play and the soft transfer embargo.

If Olise develops in to an even better player, it'll be inevitable that Reading will have to cash in on him. That will give the club more funds to bring in new players.

However, with this new contract, his valuation has been raised with Reading not under any pressure to sell. This can only benefit the club, who were set to lose the Frenchman at the end of next season.

It will increase the optimism of fans

Reading have only managed to bring one player in to the club so far this summer. With no incoming deals seeming to be imminent, this gives the fans a boost, who had been crying out for some new signings. This will feel like a new signing.

The supporters have always been behind a lot of the players who have come through the youth academy, and will be looking forward to seeing Olise play a big part in the Reading squad again in the upcoming season.

Reading are one of the favourites for Championship relegation next season. However, with new deals for the youngsters like Olise, combined with a few promising signings in the summer, it could help the Royals silence the critics and do very well in the league.

Inspiration for the youth

This well-deserved contract for Olise will inspire a lot of the younger players. A lot of these players are currently out in Spain for Reading's pre-season tour at this moment in time.

Players like Tom McInytre, Gabriel Osho and Josh Barrett will believe that if they perform well for the team, the club will put all of their faith in them and offer them new deals. This is a great incentive for them players.

There's no doubt that we will be more reliant on younger players in the 2019/20 season.

Giving them the hunger and drive to succeed can only help the Royals in their quest to improve their league position, something they need to do before they fall through the trap to League One.
