Marcelo Bielsa has Leeds United in a superb position in the Sky Bet Championship’s promotion race, with a Premier League return on the radar of the Elland Road club.

Leeds’ fast start to the season has been particularly impressive when you consider the injuries that Bielsa has had to contend with, as some key personnel has been missing at stages and the Argentinian has never been able to call on his best XI.

January could be a big month for Leeds, particularly if Bielsa wants to strengthen his thin squad for one final push.

It’s emerged that Leeds have been keeping tabs on Jeremain Lens, with a potential move for the 31-year-old on the horizon.

The former Sunderland man now finds himself in Turkey with Besiktas, and would represent a high-profile addition at Elland Road if Victor Orta works his magic to bring him on board.

However, should the winger arrive, there would be some concern.

Here is a look at why Leeds shouldn’t force a deal through…

Lens spent time with Sunderland earlier in his career and it’s safe to say that he was part of the club’s fall from grace that has left them in League One.

He’s a player who isn’t highly thought of in the North Easy following his spell there, and Leeds should take that into consideration here.

Clarke is such an exciting talent and Leeds’ supporters have high hopes for the 18-year-old.

He’s flourishing in the under-23s and making a good impact when he’s featuring in the Championship.

With such an exciting player emerging, Leeds should be looking to play him rather than bringing Lens on board.

Besiktas are a big team, but the Super Lig is hardly a major step up from the Championship.

In nine appearances this season, Lens has scored once and provided one assist, which is a poor return.

Leeds arguably have more productive options already at the club.
