The heroic playoff push of last season seems a long time ago now for Millwall and Neil Harris.

The Lions currently sit in 22nd place and look set to be part of a real relegation scrap at the bottom of the Championship this season.

The Londoners have won just once in their last nine matches and just twice all season with the pressure now beginning to mount on both Harris and the players.

Last season, the club's biggest strength was undoubtedly their defence. Harris set his side up to be incredibly hard to beat and he achieved that well.

His back four were probably the most organised in the entire division and it was on these values that they built their playoff push.

But they are now struggling and attention will have no doubt began to turn to the January transfer window.

One player who could be an option is Newcastle United youngster and Sean Longstaff.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan with Blackpool and another move away from St. James' Park could well be on the cards.

So here are three reasons why Millwall should push to sign him...

There is a real lack of midfield options.

The sale of George Saville in the summer seemed inevitable for a while yet adequate alternatives were never really brought in.

Shaun Williams and Ryan Tunnicliffe are the only real options in the middle and with no competition, it is hard to see them improving soon.

Longstaff's versatility would also be a very useful tool.

After missing out on the permanent signing of Ben Marshall in the summer to Norwich, there has been a lack of a hard-working presence in the middle of the park.

The Newcastle man is capable of playing on the left, much like Marshall, and would help to finally fill his void.

At 20 Longstaff would be a very wise investment.

There is every chance that Neil Harris will be able to improve him at the Den and would either contribute to an exciting period at the club or be sold for a decent profit.
