Marcelo Bielsa has a real selection headache at Leeds United with right-back proving to be a problem position for the Argentine.

Leeds lost Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi in consecutive fixtures last month, with the two right-backs sidelined until the New Year.

That has left Stuart Dallas deputising at right-back, with the Northern Irishman struggling out of position.

January is fast approaching now, and although Bielsa has stated he’s happy with his squad, we could still see Leeds move to strengthen in early 2019.

Ayling and Berardi will be back in January and February respectively, but Leeds’ lack of depth on that side of defence could mean Bielsa turns to the winter window to add another option.

One man who could be available is Connor Roberts, with Swansea City right-back struggling to agree fresh terms in Wales, according to reliable journalist, Alan Nixon.

Here at FLW, we explore the reasons why Leeds should move to capitalise on Roberts’ situation at Swansea…

Right now with Ayling and Berardi out, Leeds have real problems at right-back.

Of course, the two will be returning in the New Year, but it’ll be a big ask for them to get back up to speed with the Championship.

Having someone like Roberts on board could give the pair more time to recover.

Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper are Leeds’ only recognised centre-backs, with Ayling and Berardi both offering cover in that position.

That shows the lack of depth Leeds have and adding another body to their defensive unit in January could be very shrewd.

Roberts would be there to cover right-back if Ayling or Berardi had to feature centrally.

The 23-year-old is a very talented player who is only going to get better in the coming years.

His contract situation at the Liberty Stadium will be worrying Swansea because so many clubs would surely love to take him on board.

That contract dispute means it would be a cheap January deal for Leeds to do, and given Roberts’ age and the potential he has, it is a deal the Elland Road club should surely be considering.
