Jan Siewert is set to embark on his first full season as Huddersfield Town boss after taking over the club when they were virtually relegated from the Premier League last season.

The Terriers enjoyed a good two years in the top flight of English football, after achieving an extraordinary promotion under David Wagner, that saw them storm up the table to eventually defeat Reading at Wembley in the play-off final.

After a good first year, the club had a bit of ‘second season syndrome’, looking like they would struggle to stay up from day one. They give it a good go, but didn’t have enough in the tank, and Siewert had started to rebuild in the final weeks of the season.

Now, they enter 2019/20 as an unknown quantity, with many neutral fans not giving them much of a chance of promotion.

That won’t be the case though, Huddersfield are a great side with a plethora of talented players in their ranks, and they will certainly be up there in May, challenging for a spot in the top six at least.

Here, we list three reasons why Jan Siewert’s side have a real chance of achieving that.

People have written them off

Going into the season, when making predictions, it feels like people are resigning Huddersfield to a mere mid-table finish.

Fans of the EFL will majorly predict the likes of Leeds, Fulham, West Brom, etc, to be up there in May, but we should not write off the Terriers.

Despite this though, Siewert’s team can only use this in their favour. While teams will go to places like Leeds gearing up for their cup final, Huddersfield may be seen as an easier fixture. It certainly will not be that.

They have had a very impressive transfer window

The Terriers have had a great transfer window so far, making a few inspired signings such as Reece Brown and Tommy Elphick - both of whom on free transfers. They have also tied down Isaac Mbenza on a permanent deal, as well as signing Borussia Dortmund II full-back Herbert Buckhorn, who Siewert will know well.

There will be a few signings still to come, but it looks as though Huddersfield are set to enter the season with a fine squad.

When you compare it to other transfer rivals, Huddersfield have had one of the better windows in the league, and this can only benefit them.

Their squad is stacked with talent

They had a terrible season in the Premier League, but many forget the squad they have, especially the midfield.

Aaron Mooy on his day is a top quality midfielder, as is Alex Pritchard who will be hoping for a huge season back in the Championship.

Karlan Grant, who joined the club in January, showed signs of brilliance in the Premier League, and was probably Huddersfield’s best player in the second half of the season.

His level is probably the top half of the Championship, for now at least, and he can excel in this coming season.

Overall, Huddersfield have a great squad and they can really challenge for a top six spot this season.
