The appointment of Jaap Stam was greeted by heavy praise and optimism by nearly everyone surrounding Reading Football Club.

It's been a disappointing season in terms of managerial decisions, with Steve Clarke and Brian McDermott both getting the sack over the course of the season. Clarke was already in place at the start of the season and after an excellent start to the season, it looked like the Royals were on the road to the Premier League once more, but the outstanding run of form came crashing down around December time, and Clarke was gone soon afterwards.

It looked set for a fairytale return to the Madejski Stadium for Brian McDermott, who is one of only two managers to have led the club to the Premier League before, but things didn't work out for McDermott and he was surprisingly sacked a few weeks ago.

With pressure of high expectations for Stam being ramped up, here are THREE reasons he will lead Reading to glory.

Fear Factor

Stam was known in his playing days at Lazio, PSV and Manchester United for being a no-nonsense, hard tackling defender, and there is little doubt that he will transfer that tough mentality into his managerial career.

You can guarantee that there wont be any instances of players coming and complaining to Jaap Stam next season, and you can also be certain that there is no chance of him losing the dressing room.

Experience with youth

The Dutchman was previously working as manager of Jung Ajax before landing the Reading job, which is a side whose main function is to provide a place for the products of Ajax's famed youth academy to gain some experience playing competitive football.

This experience of working with youth will come in very handy at Reading, with the club being very much a youth-orientated club, with several young talents on the books at the moments.

The Ajax system

Holland has produced many outstanding managers and there is no reason why Jaap Stam can't become another one.

We saw what Ronald Koeman did at Southampton, where he continued Pochettino's great work and built a great side, and Stam could do the same here.

The Dutchman is clearly trying to bring the Ajax style to Reading, having brought in several new figures behind the scenes, and this Dutch style looks perfectly suited to the youngsters at the club.
