The appointment of Jaap Stam was greeted by heavy praise and optimism by nearly everyone surrounding Reading Football Club.
It’s been a disappointing season in terms of managerial decisions, with Steve Clarke and Brian McDermott both getting the sack over the course of the season. Clarke was already in place at the start of the season and after an excellent start to the season, it looked like the Royals were on the road to the Premier League once more, but the outstanding run of form came crashing down around December time, and Clarke was gone soon afterwards.
It looked set for a fairytale return to the Madejski Stadium for Brian McDermott, who is one of only two managers to have led the club to the Premier League before, but things didn’t work out for McDermott and he was surprisingly sacked a few weeks ago.
