Having suffered a truly miserable 2018/19 campaign in the Premier League which resulted in them finishing 20 points adrift of safety last month, Huddersfield Town are now facing an uphill battle to keep hold of Jonathan Hogg this summer.

According to the Sun, Sheffield United are reportedly interested in signing the midfielder with boss Chris Wilder looking to bolster his squad ahead of the club's return to the top-flight in August.

Although there hasn't yet been an official bid from the Blades for Hogg, if they do indeed make an offer over the coming weeks, Terriers manager Jan Siewert must resist the temptation to cash in on him as doing so could have a profound impact on the club's fortunes next season.

Keeping this in mind, here are three reasons why we think Huddersfield should keep the 30-year-old at the John Smith's Stadium for the foreseeable future.

He has a wealth of experience at Championship level

When you consider that the standard of football in the Championship is arguably getting better as each year passes by, the Terriers could benefit massively from being able to call upon the services of Hogg next season.

With 216 appearances in the second-tier under his belt, the midfielder knows exactly what it takes to compete at this particular level and therefore could use his previous experiences to spur Huddersfield on towards success.

Siewert may struggle to find a worthy successor for the midfielder

Whereas selling Hogg for a lofty fee would leave Siewert with a considerable amount of money to spend during the ongoing transfer window, there is no guarantee that he will be able to bring in a sufficient replacement given the competitiveness of the market.

Therefore, unless the German has a specific successor already lined up for the former Watford star, it may be wise to steer clear of letting him leave this summer, regardless of what offers they receive from elsewhere.

The club's hopes of promotion may be dead and buried if Hogg is sold

Hogg is fifth in our list

A mainstay in Huddersfield's promotion-winning side in 2017, Hogg could very well play a similar role in helping his club secure an imminent return to the top-flight next season if he stays and Siewert manages to get his recruitment spot on.

However, by selling him, the Terriers' hopes for the new campaign may end up being dead and buried as there is no guarantee that they will be able to cope without the presence of the tough-tackling midfielder.
