Thierry Henry and John Terry, is it a stroke of genius or a misguided gamble on big names, not solid reputations?

Aston Villa fans might argue that anyone is better than Bruce, the beleaguered manager who led them to one Championship win in ten games.

If they'd converted three of the draws to wins, he'd still be in a job right now and they'd be in the top six.

That is football though, it is all about fine margins and bold decisions and Bruce didn't make the right ones.

He gambled on his defence and got it wrong and maybe his belligerent attitude towards Albert Adomah in the summer reflected his management style; muddled and indecisive.

At least he has a management style, Henry and Terry do not, as yet. They're untested and a step into the unknown. Whilst it could go well, there's every chance it will be a disaster.

Here's three reasons why FLW feel it might go badly wrong.

If the initial report is to be believed, both men went for the top job but Henry will be offered it and Terry brought in as his assistant.

That doesn't sound like a good start to a pairing that has to work. Henry seemingly forced to have the unsuccessful applicant as his side kick, with Terry left smarting at being the bit-role player.

Surely the manager should be appointed and bring in his own team?

It's a common argument that will be rolled out in the next few weeks, but they've no experience, not of managing a club nor of the Championship.

Terry played one season in the division. Henry never needed to.

Bielsa has proved it isn't essential, as did Nuno Santo, but they had experience of managing somewhere. Henry and Terry have big names and impressive playing careers, but they've not sat in many dugouts in their time.

The pressure for immediate success is massive, Aston Villa do not expect to be in the bottom half, not the fans, staff, owners or players. it shouldn't happen.

One or two tough results early on and the pressure is ramped up even more. It's a poisoned chalice, a job where winning is expected and losing not even contemplated.
