Huddersfield Town have announced that Danny Cowley has agreed to become their new manager as Jan Siewert's successor.

Cowley had previously been in charge of Lincoln City in League One, and had been key to their rapid rise up the Football League.

The 40-year-old will be in the dugout for his new side at the weekend when they take on Sheffield Wednesday, in what will be a tough test for the newly-appointed boss.

The Terriers currently occupy one of the relegation places in the Championship, and will be hoping that they can avoid back-to-back relegations, following their brief spell in the Premier League.

But with Cowley in charge, supporters will be hoping that he is the manager to turn their poor start to this year's league campaign around.

It's certainly a risky job to take though, with the Terriers struggling so far this season, and are still without a win in all competitions this term.

We look at THREE reasons as to why Cowley is taking a risk with Huddersfield Town.

Huddersfield have looked void of confidence all season

Huddersfield have surprised plenty in the Championship - for all of the wrong reasons.

They've looked like a team that are still suffering from their relegation from the Premier League, and they can't afford to mope around for too much longer.

The Terriers are still without a win in all competitions this season, and Cowley will know that he has a tough job on his hands to find that winning-mentality in his current crop of players.

The sooner he gets that first win under his belt, the better they will be set for the remainder of this year's campaign.

There is a weight of expectation on his shoulders

Cowley is regarded as a manager with a bright future ahead of him, and there will be a number of supporters and clubs keeping an eye as to how he gets on with Huddersfield.

The Terriers are a club that will have plans to get back into the Premier League as well, and the newly-appointed boss will have to find results quickly, as they have the foundations in the squad to challenge for a swift return to the top-flight.

If Cowley struggles to deal with those expectations, then he won't have been a smart appointment by Huddersfield, that's for certain.

He can't afford to make many mistakes with Huddersfield

Huddersfield have struggled this season, which has come as a surprise to many who would have expected them to be challenging for an immediate return to the Premier League.

They're already in a relegation battle, and if Cowley can't get the best out of this side early into his spell in charge with the Terriers, then they could be in real trouble this term.

Back-to-back relegations would be disastrous for the club, and Cowley simply has to get his ideas across to the players quickly, in the hope that they can improve on recent performances.

If Cowley makes mistakes early into his time with Huddersfield, then his spell with them could be relatively short, as the Championship is an unforgiving league.
