The Robins have had an exciting season so far with a run into the Carabao Cup semi-finals and they have a chance of finishing on a high with a play-off spot.

Lee Johnson has created an exciting, attacking side at Bristol City which has performed well throughout the season, but has suffered from serious bouts of inconsistency.

They are a team reliant on momentum, but a few positive results could spark a strong finish to the season which could carry them through the play-offs.

Here are three reasons why they can finish in the play-offs...

The remaining fixtures are promising for the Robins. They play Barnsley and Birmingham City who are both in the bottom four fighting relegation. Hull City are another side that they have left to play who are threatened by relegation.

Nottingham Forest and Brentford are two sides they also have left to play with neither having a realistic chance of finishing in the play-offs. They also have pivotal games against Sheffield United, Millwall and Middlesbrough with Boro being the toughest side they have remaining to play based on league position.

Therefore, their fate is mostly in their own hands because they have played the majority of the teams above them.

Johnson has his team playing in an intelligent high pressing style which is effective at hindering the opposition's ability to build up.

The intensity and sheer amount of games in the Championship means that this pressing has to be done in stages. It can't be maintained throughout the entirety of matches due to the muscle injuries that it would cause.

Therefore, his side are specific with when they do it, but Johnson's organisation and coaching has made them effective at working collectively in this regard.

This allows them to force opposition mistakes which is one of the best ways to create high quality chances due to the areas that they receive the ball in. It is an effective tool which they can use in the remaining games, but they are also not reliant on it which is important.

City are a nice blend of experience and youth which allows them to play the pressing style mentioned above while also having the know-how to see out games. They are able to force opposition mistakes or create their own openings which allows them to be multidimensional due to the experience that they have.

This could be seen in their Carabao Cup run because they were able to hold off much stronger Premier League sides such as Manchester United and then capitalised on chances that came their way in key moments.

Having this blend within a strong team shape and an innovative manager bodes them well for the remainder of the season.
