Brentford have been linked with a swoop for Mark Cooper, the manager of League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

The 47-year old is the son of former Leeds and England player Terry Cooper and has already managed a host of lower league clubs in his relatively short time as a manager. He made a name for himself with Tamworth and Kettering, before a move to Peterborough which lasted just 13 matches.

He's later served time at Darlington and Notts County, as well as Swindon Town, before dropping out of the Football League. With the Gloucestershire side, he won the National League play offs in 2017 and is now on the cusp of a similar battle in League Two.

Does his recent success leave him as a challenger for the Brentford job? Or is this the sort of appointment they should avoid at all costs?

FLW looks at three reasons that the Bees need to steer well clear of Mark Cooper.

Far from 'being on a shoe-string budget' as the report suggests, Mark Cooper has had money lavished on him season upon season.

In the summer he attracted Wales international George Williams to the side, a member of the Euro 2016 squad.

Player like that do not come on a budget. His record at Notts County is reflective of his work without money; uninspiring.

Tactically, he doesn't have the necessary ability to either see out games, nor kill them off. His side were nine points clear in the National League by November 2016, leading rivals Lincoln City 2-1 in injury time at home to extend the lead to 12 points.

They lost 3-2. In the return leg they led 1-0 at half time and lost 3-1.

This season his side are undefeated, but they're still eight points shy of the top spot in the division as a direct result of not being able to see games out, nor capitalise on a lead.

His player turnover is high, with Forest Green often moving on players at an unbelievable rate.

Could it be to his stern approach to management? He's accused his own players of diving in the past and has even been involved in altercations with opposition fans.

Surely, not the sort of character suitable for the sedate and united Brentford squad.
