The lookout for Jamal Blackman’s replacement at Elland Road seems well underway, with Leeds United linked with a host of goalkeepers over the course of the last two weeks.

Leeds currently only have Bailey Peacock-Farrell as a senior goalkeeping option, with the need for reinforcements great heading into the New Year.

Karl Darlow at Newcastle United is a man on Leeds’ radar, according to the Sun, with the goalkeeper way down the pecking order at St James’ Park.

Then, today, Keiren Westwood has been linked with a move across Yorkshire with his Sheffield Wednesday career seemingly over – Mirror (December 11, page 53).

It does appear that a goalkeeper will arrive to challenge Peacock-Farrell, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing for the 22-year-old.

Here is a look at THREE reasons why the young goalkeeper should actually welcome the recent transfer news…

Like most, Peacock-Farrell thrives when he’s got competition for his place in the side.

The worst thing for a goalkeeper is becoming complacent and taking his place in the starting XI for granted.

At the moment, that’s the case, but should Darlow or Westwood arrive, things will change.

Darlow is 28, whilst Westwood is 34, with both goalkeepers having years of experience.

That’s definitely something the Peacock-Farrell is lacking and the addition of a senior head could help him out and further his own development.

Westwood’s presence in particular could be great for the youngster.

Finally, football is a team game and it isn’t about individuals.

Peacock-Farrell will want to play, but if a goalkeeper who is better suited to Leeds comes in, then he has to accept it and offer his support in the same way others have had to.

If Darlow or Westwood improve Leeds then that’s a good thing as they search for promotion. Peacock-Farrell should be happy with that, as the club will be closer to their target.
