Coventry City have hit a bad run of form at the worst possible time, with the hectic winter period looming.

The Sky Blues, despite a recent run of five successive league victories, have dropped to 11th position in the Sky Bet League One table, having gone five games without a win.

It seems that Mark Robins' men can do anything but win a game at present - they were 1-0 up away at Walsall last week, before two goals from the Saddlers in injury time somehow condemned City to their 8th defeat of the campaign.

On the whole, the West Midlands club have settled well after promotion from League Two last term, and with Robins' men currently sitting six points off the playoff places, the January transfer window will be crucial in deciding their fate come the end of the season.

Here, we take a look at three realistic signings that Coventry should look to make in the January window next month...

After conceding two goals in stoppage time last week, as well as having kept four clean sheets all season, the addition of another defender in January certainly wouldn't go amiss in January.

Wolves' Ethan Ebanks-Landell could be a shrewd signing for the Sky Blues - the 25-year old hasn't played for Nuno Espirito Santo's men this season, and is extremely unlikely to break into the first-team.

The defender has flourished at League One level before, he was a regular figure at the back for Sheffield United in their promotion season in 2016/17, and was the diamond amongst the rubble in a MK Dons back four that didn't have the greatest of seasons last term.

On a loan deal, this would be a smart move.

On the topic of MK Dons, Chuks Aneke could be of much use to Coventry.

The Sky Blues have failed to find a goalscorer this season, with two players both on four goals each in Conor Chaplin and Jonson Clarke-Harris, so they could do with another forward to spearhead their promotion push.

Aneke has been on fire for MK Dons in League Two this term - the 25-year old powerhouse has scored eight goals and produced two assists, and could offer Coventry a different dimension up top.

Able to play as a striker or behind the forward, the 6-foot-2 forward is very strong and a threat in the air, as well as possessing a fair amount of pace. He could be a great signing.

It's fair to say that Ellis Harrison's move to Ipswich Town hasn't gone as he would have liked.

Signing from Bristol Rovers for a fee of £750,000 in the summer, the 24-year old has failed to find the back of the net in six league starts for the Tractor Boys, with his last two appearances coming off the bench.

With Paul Lambert's men sitting at the foot of the Championship table, there is likely to be a January overhaul at Portman Road, and Robins should definitely look to secure his services on a loan deal.

He was a fine goalscorer for Bristol Rovers in League One, and with City squandering several chances against Walsall last weekend, they could do much worse than Harrison.
