Having all but secured their place in the division for another season, Nottingham Forest can almost afford to coast until the end of the campaign with manager Aitor Karanka afforded the luxury to experiment with his squad in the final weeks of the year.

The Spaniard took the reigns at The City Ground back in January, and with safety the primary expectation for his first five months in the job, the pressure will be on the former Middlesbrough boss to deliver when the new campaign kicks off in August.

Karanka was busy in January, and is expected to utilise the summer window to completely overhaul his squad in the East Midlands, and this three may emerge as realistic targets when the window opens for business once again…

Peterborough United forward Marriott is approaching a phenomenal thirty-goal haul for the season and is expected to move to the Championship when the season comes to a close.

With the Posh unlikely to return to the second tier, Marriott could seek a move away from London Road, and Karanka must ensure he is in the frame to bring the former Luton man to the Midlands.

Britt Assombalonga enjoyed a successful career with the Reds having joined from Peterborough, and Marriott could follow in the footsteps of the now Middlesbrough striker.

If Forest are serious about promotion next season, Marriott must be a target.

The Northern Irish international is all but certain to leave West Brom when his contract expires at the end of June, with the Baggies looking likely to join Forest in the second-tier next season.

Forest are in need of a little experience in the middle with David Vaughan likely to move on, and Brunt has played at the highest level for an extended period and still has a lot to offer the English game.

Karanka will be well aware of the player’s talents having encountered him during his tenure as Boro boss and could well be tempted to launch a swoop for the player in the summer.

Brunt could take Forest to a new level.

The Portuguese defender has proven a revelation since joining the Reds in the closing stages of the winter transfer window on a loan deal from Sporting Lisbon until the end of the season, and Karanka must do what it takes to make his switch permanent.

Having established himself as a starter, Figueiredo is proving a dominating presence at the heart of the Forest back-line, winning an average of five headers per game and failing to allow opposition striker’s an inch of space in and around the box.

The 24-year-old is unlikely to break into the first-team set-up at Sporting on a regular basis so a move would make sense if he is to further his career, and currently enjoying life in Nottingham, a permanent switch is well and truly on the cards.

Forest fans, thoughts?
