Reading clung onto their status as a Championship team on the final day of the season after they drew 0-0 with Cardiff City.

Results elsewhere meant that Reading did not need the point but they held firm and kept Cardiff at bay with the Bluebirds winning promotion to the top flight regardless of their draw.

After losing in the play-off final last season, a lot was expected this season for the Royals but things started poorly under Jaap Stam this term.

With Reading deep in relegation trouble, Stam parted ways with the club.

Paul Clement came in and was tasked with keeping Reading up, which he managed on the final day of the season.

Clement has a rebuilding project on his hands ahead of next season.

Now that Reading confirmed their safety, Clement will already be thinking about which players he can bring in or get rid of as he looks to add his own personal stamp to the squad.

Here are three issues at Reading that he needs to address straight away.

The Royals averaged just over a goal a game this season and that is simply not good enough.

Mo Barrow and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson ended as joint top scorers with 10 goals each, which is not a bad total for a back-up striker but they really need a 20-goal striker next year to push up the league table.

Sone Aluko has three goals this season and Yann Kermorgant's total of two really illustrates his decline from last season.

Reading desperately need to bring in a new striker this summer - someone who can score the goals to have the club competing at the other end of the Championship table.

The future looks bright at Reading and Clement needs to use pre-season to blood a number of players into the first-team picture.

Young attacking trio Andrija Novakovich, Sam Smith and Danny Loader are all showing promising signs of being first-team ready soon.

Novakovich has been prolific for Telstar in the second tier of Dutch football while Loader was an under-17 World Cup winner with England and Smith has already scored two senior goals.

Other players like Andy Rinomhota, Omar Richards and Axel Andresson are surely knocking on the door, too.

Reading have a large squad but too many of their players are below par.

The likes of Tyler Blackett, Dave Edwards and Joseph Mendes need axing immediately while Yann Kermorgant is past his best.

Reading need a major summer clear-out, flogging all of their fringe players and bringing in newer, better players.
