Birmingham City sealed their Championship place for next season in style at the weekend as they beat Fulham 3-1 at St. Andrew's.

Though there was only a slight chance that they would get relegated on the final day, the Blues still needed to deliver the goods and they duly did so as they consigned Fulham to a play-off battle.

Certainly, it was a performance that underlined the quality the Blues do have at their disposal when they get it hooked up and so Garry Monk will be looking to build on that in the summer.

Make no mistake, too, there is still plenty that needs to be done at St. Andrew's for 2018/19 and so, with that in mind, we've come up with three things that need addressing...

Creativity in midfield is something that the Blues do lack.

Further forwards they've got good players in Jota, Che Adams and Jacques Maghoma among others but it's deeper in midfield where the problems lie.

Maikel Kieftenbeld, David Davis et al. are all good players in their own right but none of them really pull the strings.

Monk should look to get someone like that in.

A new centre-half should also be on Monk's agenda.

Birmingham have some decent options there already with the likes of Michael Morrison and Harlee Dean but they could perhaps add to the numbers.

A former defender himself, Monk knows how important a strong back-line is so it'd be no surprise to see more come in.

Getting the most out of best players is something the Blues have not really managed to do.

Monk saw some better performances this season, though, so that might add some optimism. The Blues have good players in their squad which, if they can perform at a regularly high level, could take them to the right end of the league.

Working on a system in the summer to help that happen should be on Monk's to do list.
