The January transfer window hasn't even been closed for three weeks yet however clubs are already thought to be taking interest in their transfer targets for the summer.

Championship side Bristol City are thought to be monitoring the development of Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng who has progressed through the club's academy system and become a regular in their side.

The Robins could be light on options at right-back come the summer with Pedro Pereira expecting to return to his parent club Benfica following his loan spell at Ashton Gate.

With Ng thought to be a potential summer arrival in BS3, here are three qualities that the youngster would bring to their side...

Good reading of the game

The 23-year-old isn't one of the more attacking right-backs in League Two but he is more than capable of defending responsibly.

He reads the game well and is capable of intercepting passes that come into his area of the pitch with no hesitation, instead choosing to nip in and win the ball calmly.

He knows when it is right to sit back and hold his position in the defensive line or when he can have the freedom to break forward and join an attack.

He rarely gets found out defensively and would provide Bristol City with some defensive stability.

Can get forward

Ng is more of an old-school full-back who defends first and foremost but he also recognises when he should go forward and attack.

He is good at joining attacks late and overlapping down the right when the winger in front of him receives the ball and needs somebody to get around him for a simple pass.

While his goal ratio of five goals in 159 appearances for Crewe may be slightly underwhelming, the defender has shown before that he is never scared of having a go at goal when the chance presents itself.

A versatile option

He primarily plays at right-back but the defender has been known to fill in at centre-back when Crewe have needed him too.

A new centre-back may be needed at Ashton Gate in the summer with the contract of Ashley Williams set to expire as well as Filip Benkovic returning to parent club Leicester and Tomas Kalas struggling with a few injury issues across the campaign.

NG would be able to provide back-up to Jack Hunt at right-back as well as the centre-backs and he would be fully deserving of his chance at Championship level.
