Middlesbrough completed the signing of Duncan Watmore last night, with the former Sunderland man agreeing an initial short-term deal at the Riverside.

The 26-year-old has been training with Neil Warnock's side for the past few weeks and he clearly impressed the experienced boss, as he has signed a contract until mid-January.

Warnock had been desperate to bring in more attacking reinforcements after enduring a frustrating end to the transfer market and he has also lost Ashley Fletcher to injury.

So, Watmore will provide more depth in the final third for Boro and here we look at THREE other qualities the attacker will bring...

Versatility

An undoubted positive with the new recruit is that he can play various positions.

Watmore can play up top, off a striker or out wide. In fact, he seems the type that would play anywhere that the manager asked him to.

Whilst Warnock has gone with a back three this season, he may be open to changing moving forward but no matter what the system is, the new signing will be able to slot in.

Work rate

There aren't many players who last long under Warnock if they don't work hard but there will be no issues on that front here.

Watmore is a very determined player, who will chase lost causes and put the defenders under pressure, which can allow the team to press further up the pitch.

The ex-Sunderland man will be giving everything to show he warrants a longer contract.

Pace

In terms of his footballing ability, Watmore's main strength is his pace and that will be very welcome for the boss.

Even though Boro have enjoyed an excellent start, they have scored just nine goals in 11 games. A reason for that is they can be predictable at times.

Bringing in someone who can run in behind or at the opposition will give Boro a new attacking threat.
