The 2015/16 Championship season was one of change for Queen's Park Rangers.

With the arrival of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in early December last year, the club embarked on a new era under the ex-Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker.

Some doubts were raised over the new gaffer's capabilities to manage at a level as high and competitive as the Championship.

However, it could easily be argued that the time he had to change things from December onwards was a relative success. The club finished 12th in the Championship standings after a highly competitive season drew to a close.

So, after a season with a squad that he had very little responsibility for bringing to the club, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will be looking forward to bringing in his own players in the transfer market.

Having said that, he will also be aware that the squad possesses necessary quality that will allow them to push on next season -  under the right influence from Hasselbaink.

A mid-table finish in the Championship is by no means something to sneer at, considering it is one of Europe's most competitive leagues.

Therefore, Queen's Park Rangers' squad is definitely full of some players that can light up the Championship next season in an effort to push them on to a play-off contending finish.

After finishing 14 points outside the play-off places last season, Hasselbaink will be keen to find the right players in his squad that can do exactly that.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Reece Chambers gives his view on THREE QPR players you need to watch for in the 2016/17 season...

Tjaronn Chery

cheryy

The 28-year-old had a very impressive first season in English football last season with QPR.

As an attacking midfielder, Chery proved his quality with a total of 10 goals in the league. Furthermore, he managed to add 4 assists to his contribution list in what was a very encouraging season for the midfielder.

As a result, his £2.44m move to Loftus Road looks to be paying off with the club now beginning to reap the rewards of the move for the Dutchman.

With more experience under his belt, Chery is one to look out for in the Championship next season with his progression only likely to make him a better player for the Hoops.

Nedum Onuoha

Nedum Onuoha-

Since joining the club from Manchester City in 2012, Onuoha has only grown as a player at Loftus Road.

His physical presence is the most obvious asset he holds but his pace and defensive know-how warranted the defender to become club captain.

The performances of Onuoha last season were very impressive as his reliability is typified by the fact that he made 48 appearances in league and cup.

Therefore, he should be a player to watch out for next season. His reliability and leadership skills could be a large part in any potential QPR success in the 2016/17 season.

Alex Smithies

smithies

Like Onuoha and Chery, Smithies goes into the 2016/17 season with impressive form.

Following his transfer from Huddersfield Town last summer, a fee believed to be in the region of £1.5m, Smithies found it hard to remove Robert Green from the number one goalkeeping place. However, he broke through to the first team in January.

He appeared in the majority of QPR's league fixtures in 2016 making 18 appearances for the club and keeping 6 clean sheets in the process.

At the age of 26, Smithies has many years in front of him as a goalkeeper and should definitely be one to watch next season.
