It was the simple matter of balancing the books for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s QPR last season after offloading several players, who were valued at a considerable price or were on too high wages.

A Perfect example was Rob Green, the former England goalkeeper was just one appearance from activating a clause in his contract that would see his wages increase and extend his contract to a further year.

Green was the Hoops’ number one goalkeeper at the time and has been regarded as an established goalkeeper throughout his career.

However, once Hasselbaink learned of his clause, Green had to sit out almost half a season as he refused to pay up for the goalkeeper's service. The shot-stopper was released in the summer on a free and now plays at Leeds United.

Hasselbaink also managed to offload the likes of Leroy Fer for a fee of around £5 million in the summer to Swansea City, but the boss is still seems keen to shift some players out on high incomes in January.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies THREE QPR player transfer valuations (using Transfermarkt) that may surprise you..

Steven Caulker – £6.38m

Once regarded as the next big English superstar defender while he played for Tottenham Hotspur.

Since his big money move to Cardiff City during their spell in the Premier League, it’s not quite worked out for the defender, after further spells in the top-flight with Southampton and Liverpool also flopped.

Caulker was one of a number of players who Hasselbaink wanted to shift out of the club, and his valuation certainly does not live up to his performances of late.

Sandro - £4.25m

The Brazilian midfielder has been desperate for a way out of the West London club.

Having not made a league appearance for Rangers since last December, looks all but on his way out of Loftus Road.

A planned transfer to Sporting Lisbon fell through and QPR were unable to find an alternative buyer.

For a player, who has not played in the league for almost six months, and been cast aside, you wonder why he is still valued at £4.25m.

Massimo Luongo - £3.4m

The midfielder has settled into life at Loftus Road considerably well and has embraced his journey from Australia to QPR with hard work and desire to win caps for his country.

He couples energy with a maturity beyond his years. He has a strong will to win and showed confidence in his ability when, frustrated with a lack of chances at Tottenham as a youngster, he requested a move to Swindon, where he found a platform to earn a move to QPR.

With this day in age, £3.4m sounds like a cheap option for a player that is bursting with potential.

Maybe the midfielder could be snapped up for a bargain fee if he continues his excellent performances.
