It was the simple matter of balancing the books for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s QPR last season after offloading several players, who were valued at a considerable price or were on too high wages.
A Perfect example was Rob Green, the former England goalkeeper was just one appearance from activating a clause in his contract that would see his wages increase and extend his contract to a further year.
Green was the Hoops’ number one goalkeeper at the time and has been regarded as an established goalkeeper throughout his career.
However, once Hasselbaink learned of his clause, Green had to sit out almost half a season as he refused to pay up for the goalkeeper’s service. The shot-stopper was released in the summer on a free and now plays at Leeds United.
Hasselbaink also managed to offload the likes of Leroy Fer for a fee of around £5 million in the summer to Swansea City, but the boss is still seems keen to shift some players out on high incomes in January.
