Preston North End suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season after the humbling 4-0 defeat to Hull City on Wednesday night.

Alex Neil’s side had established themselves amongst the early season promotion favourites and sat in second place before the international break.

Two defeats since returning from the break however has seen North End slip six points behind Leeds United, who now occupy second place.

Preston’s next game is against league leaders West Bromwich Albion and they will be hoping to keep their unbeaten home run intact and stop the losing streak on Monday evening.

Here we take a look at three selection dilemmas that might give Alex Neil a headache this weekend…

A potential recall for Josh Harrop?

The 23-year-old midfielder had missed North End’s last five games before making a 30 minute cameo at Hull on Wednesday, after suffering a hamstring injury.

Harrop certainly adds an attacking threat to North End’s side, something they were severely lacking in the defeat to Hull.

The former Manchester United man has chipped in with three goals over his nine league appearances so far this term and could add some potential firepower as North End look to overcome the league leaders.

Jayden Stockley or Billy Bodin?

Bodin replaced Stockley at half-time of the defeat to Derby County last weekend and was the preferred choice to the former Exeter City man on Wednesday night.

Bodin hasn’t managed to find the net in these two outings and Neil could be tempted to recall Stockley to the starting XI on Monday evening.

Stockley scored in the 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town before the international break and provides the Lilywhites with a lot more height in the area compared to Bodin.

The Baggies are a physical side and Neil will be tempted to recall Stockley to offer more of a physical presence up top.

Brad Potts in, Maguire or Bodin out?

25-year-old Brad Potts replaced Maguire on Wednesday night and Neil may opt to give the winger only his fourth start of the season on Monday evening.

Maguire has not managed to score or provide an assist in his last five starts for the club, and Neil may look to give the 25-year-old a break from the side.

Another thing Neil could experiment with is moving Potts in and onto the wing and putting Maguire in his favoured position up top, meaning Billy Bodin would drop out.

North End would start against the Baggies with two out-and-out wingers in Potts and Barkhuizen, with Maguire leading the line for the side.
