Steve Clarke was the man in charge at Reading at the start of the season signing Orlando Sa and Paul McShane with the latter bolstering the defence, while in the winter they added Yann Kermorgant.

They started the season well with Nick Blackman in fine form scoring 11 goals as Reading found themselves in the top three, but Blackman was sold in January .

After collapsing in the new year they replaced Clarke with McDermott to little effect.  They only won two games in the next two months but McDermott kept his job and he started to turn it around with four wins in eight games.

But then in the run in Reading suffered from 6 defeats in the final 7 games and McDermott was replaced by Jaap Stam at the end of the season.

Reading need to rebuild for next season under Stam and keep hold of key midfielders like Oliver Norwood and Danny Williams. The defence was fairly solid but it could do with some more depth and after successful loan signings from the Premier League like Lucas Piazon they will go back in the market for some more.

Here are 3 Premier League wonderkids who could excel at Reading next season...

Jon Toral

The exciting Spanish attacking midfielder is one of the best talents at Arsenal and has had two outstanding loan spells in the Championship already.

He did very well at Brentford a couple of seasons ago and scored 6 goals in 34 games and layed on plenty of chances to teammates. He is known for his dynamic wing play and his pace and technical flare makes him an exciting winger and Birmingham took him in last season.

He scored 8 goals in 36 games and was voted Birmingham Player of the Season laying on loads of chances for teammates and becoming a fan favorite. Some managers accused him of diving but in truth his pace was too much for most Championship defenses.

Reece Oxford

The 17 year old West Ham star burst on to the scene last season at the age of 16 when he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal.

He only lost possession once and he was praised for his breaking up of play, passing, vision and general defensive play with many feeling he was Man of the Match.

Despite getting ripped apart by Leicester in the following game he is only young and his seven games have given him important experience and confidence. He needs a sustained role of first team football and Reading will give him a bit of that with Norwood's departure looking increasingly likely.

James Wilson

What Reading need most of all is a new striker and Manchester United youngster James Wilson would fit the bill.

Wilson has overtaken Will Keane in the pecking order and is sought after by every side in the Championship and numerous Football League sides.

He has made his senior debut for Manchester United and scored 4 goals in his time there as well as being an active part in the England U21 set up. He spent last season on loan at Championship high flyers Brighton scoring 5 goals in 27 games as Brighton narrowly missed out on promotion but Wilson was praised for his hard work.
