Tony Mowbray and his Coventry City side are looking to build on this season's eighth place finish, and make a sustained assault on the League One promotion places.

It looked for all the world that the Sky Blues would achieve this, before an alarming slump in form during the new year saw them fall out of the play-off positions altogether.

Nonetheless, a young and vibrant Coventry City side produced some memorable moments during this campaign, and fans will be hopeful that there will be similar instances next time around.

A lot of the success that Coventry fans savoured this campaign came about because of Tony Mowbray's expert use of the loan market.

Aware he didn't have the budget to sign all the quality players a squad requires, he incorporated the use of the loan system in his recruitment drive to excellent effect.

The likes of Adam Armstrong and Jacob Murphy not only contributed enormously to Coventry's season, but made massive strides in their own personal development too.

Mowbray has already talked about his reliance for loans again this season, so with this in mind, FLW's Tom Percival looks at THREE players from the Premier League, who could hugely benefit from a stint at the Ricoh Arena......

Sullay Kaikai

Sullay Kaikai

The Crystal Palace midfielder had a hugely successful time on loan at Shrewsbury Town in League 1 this campaign, before making his Palace debut in the last game of the Premier League season in a defeat to Southampton.

His 12 goals in 26 games for the Shrews is hugely impressive, and made him one of the most feared players in the division.

What Pardew and Crystal Palace view to be the next step for Kaikai's development remains to be seen, but perhaps a promotion race in League 1 would be a viable option.

Mowbray prides himself on constructing sides who play a nice brand of football, and Pardew could see a winning campaign in League 1 as more beneficial to the player than a relegation struggle in the Championship.

If this was the case, Kaikai could be the type of payer who would flourish at the Ricoh Arena.

Baily Cargill

Baily Cargillsa

The promising Bournemouth centre-back actually spent a brief spell on loan with the Sky Blues having joined on January transfer deadline day, but his stint in the West Midlands was cruelly cut short through injury.

The stage of Cargill's development of playing week in week out was therefore disrupted too, so Eddie Howe may choose to give him another opportunity, and this may be something Tony Mowbray is interested in.

Cargill is not only a very accomplished reader of the game but is also very good with the ball at his feet. This is something Mowbray wants from one of his centre-backs, playing alongside a bigger, more physical partner.

The style of football Coventry players isn't too dissimilar to that of Bournemouth's, so this deal could be hugely beneficial for both clubs as well as the player himself.

Jake Hesketh

Jake Hesketh

Hesketh is prospect that people have been talking about for a little while now, however he has yet to develop into the player many thought he would.

Having made his Premier League debut in 2014, he hasn't appeared for the senior side since, plying his trade in the U21's.

A move down to League 1 with Coventry may provide the perfect platform to get his carer going again.

Fellow Southampton youngster Jack Stephens has recently spoke of how useful his loan spell at Coventry was and the influence Tony Mowbray had in making him a better player.

Bringing in a creative player like Hesketh will be high on Mowbray's priorities and the young Saint should look at the development James Maddison made in a similar position at Coventry, to see the advantages of a move to the Sky Blues.
