Portuguese forward Lucas Joao only joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer from Nacional in his home country, but in just six months he has already made a big impression on English football.

The 22-year-old has scored seven goals in 31 games in all competitions, including five strikes in the Championship and a goal to cap off a fine performance in the Owls' 3-0 victory over Arsenal in the League Cup in October.

His impressive start to life in England has also seen him earn his first two senior caps for his country, and although he has not found the net since the end of November, he has continued to contribute to Wednesday's strong season, which sees the club sit sixth in the league.

Undoubtedly a raw talent, we've looked at three Premier League clubs who could do with adding Joao to their squad with just under a week of the January transfer window remaining.....

Aston Villa

Rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and 10 points adrift from safety, Villa are in dire straits this season and at their current rate are sleepwalking towards the Championship.

A big part of their problem has been a lack of goals after selling top scorer Christian Benteke to Liverpool in the summer - Remi Garde's side have netted just 18 times in 23 league matches so far this season.

Joao could be an option for the Villans and his ability to embark upon a hot run of scoring form - evident in the fact that five of his goals came in a seven-match period in the autumn - could prove invaluable for the basement club.

The Portuguese would be a fairly low-risk signing for Villa, as he would be unlikely to command a fee of more than two or three million, and he certainly has the potential to become a key player in what is almost certain to be a Championship promotion push next season.

Swansea City

Back-to-back wins over Watford and Everton have seen Swansea arrest their slide towards the Premier League relegation zone, but they still sit uncomfortably close to the bottom three, just four points clear of danger.

The majority of the Swans' limited success throughout the campaign has come thanks to Andre Ayew, with the Ghanaian forward having contributed eight goals and a handful of assists in his 22 appearances.

However, whether or not Ayew is persuaded to leave to join Sunderland in the next few days, Garry Monk's side need another option in attack with Bafetimbi Gomis having scored just once in the league since August.

Joao could be that man, as the youngster would likely come with a good recommendation from his countryman and Swansea striker Eder, and his talent in front of goal and ability to link up the play could help to bring the best out of players such as Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jefferson Montero.

Everton

The Toffees have not experienced the success that they would have been hoping for this season, as they are currently in 12th position in the league and struggling to get out of mid-table.

Things would surely have been even worse for them without key man Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 15 of the club's 40 Premier League goals this season and has helped to keep them from sinking further down the table.

With Steven Naismith having departed for Norwich City earlier this month, Roberto Martinez is light on attacking options, and must be dreading any injury to Lukaku with Arouna Kone's five goals the second-highest league tally for the club this season.

Reinvesting some of the Naismith fee on Joao could be a potential solution for the Merseysiders, and though the Portuguese striker would likely serve as back-up to Lukaku, his ability to contribute from the bench could be valuable in the final months of the season.
