With Nottingham Forest working within strict transfer embargo stipulations for the rest of this season, they are unlikely to be luring any superstars to the City Ground any time soon.

The sale of Michail Antonio to West Ham United during the summer has just about ensured that Forest will begin next season out of the embargo, and able to sign players once again, but until that point they must continue to be shrewd in the market.

Ryan Mendes, Nelson Oliveira and Johnny Williams have all proved to be reasonably decent loan signings by boss Dougie Freedman, and he must continue to search for similar acquisitions for the rest of this season.

With the club looking to kick start their season following Friday night's 1-0 win over fierce rivals Derby County, Football League World's Lee Clarke takes a look at THREE Premier League players who Forest could pursue in January.....

Gary Gardner

Whilst Forest do look to have options in midfield now, few would be against Aston Villa man Gardner coming back into the City Ground fold.

The 23-year-old adhered himself to the Forest faithful last season with a series of eye-catching performances and he proved a superb signing for the Reds last season.

With Remi Garde taking over as boss at Villa Park, Gardner may find his first-team chances limited somewhat and a loan move away from the club could be on the cards for the second half of the campaign.

Yann Kermorgant

Bournemouth's French striker Kermorgant netted 17 goals last season as the Cherries secured the Championship title, but first-team football as come at a premium for the 34-year-old.

Forest have struggled for goals so far this season and a move for the experienced striker could be a good one for the Reds, to aid their current crop of strikers.

Nelson Oliveira has looked in decent form even when he hasn't been scoring this season but in Chris O'Grady and Dexter Blackstock, Forest have two strikers who have found goals hard to come by this season.

Alex Iwobi

Arsenal young gun Iwobi looks set to leave the Gunners on loan in January and a move to the Championship looks like his likely destination.

The 19-year-old has a single first-team appearance for the North London-based club this season in the Capital One Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday, and boss Arsene Wenger will surely be keen for the youngster to play more football.

Forest took Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom on loan at the end of last season from the Emirates Stadium, and boss Dougie Freedman could raid the Gunners once again.

Forest fans... Do you agree? Which Premier League players do you think could make a difference to the club's fortunes?
