Tom Eaves is a talisman at Gillingham, a mobile and burly striker who seems to have goals follow him wherever he goes.
There’s little doubt he’s been a key player for them but, as his contract winds down, there’s every chance he could end up making a move elsewhere.
If that happens, Steve Lovell will need to put a replacement right at the top of his list of priorities. Eaves’ goals have bailed the Gills out over the last 18 months or so and if he failed to adequately replace them, it could be a disaster.
There’s no shortage of good strikers around, but finding the right one at the right price would be the challenge. League One is awash with promise, but would Gillingham be able to financially compete for one of the divisions top players?
Or would they be forced into League Two for the right man to lead them forward?
