Birmingham City are in the midst of a real rut at the moment and they're well embroiled in the relegation fight right now.

The men from St. Andrew's have had a rough time of things since their loss to Aston Villa a few weeks ago and the weekend's result against Barnsley has certainly thrown them further into the mire.

For sure, the atmosphere at the club right now is not good at all and Steve Cotterill is certainly painting the picture of a man teetering on the edge in terms of keeping his job.

Certainly, then, if things continue we could see the Blues change manager once again and so, with that possibility in mind, we've been thinking about potential replacements for him.

Let's take a look at the three who could come in and do a job...

Carsley is a well-liked and well-respected member of the Birmingham set-up at the moment and you could see him getting the approval of the fans if he was appointed.

He's said before he might not fancy a manager's job but if he was offered a contract until the end of the campaign you could see him taking it.

He'd surely get the players going.

Warburton might be a slightly controversial choice as it might divide the fan-base in terms of approval.

However, he knows the league well, he knows how to keep sides up and he has managed to challenge for the play-offs too.

His Forest tenure ended badly but he can get sides to play good football and, with a Birmingham side that has talent, it could actually work out.

Michael Appleton is a manager who has plenty of ambition and a decent record in the Football League with his work at Oxford United a particularly stand out achievement.

He might be a risk, but he'd certainly shake things up and would be the kind of manager to leave no stone unturned in the Blues' quest to try and get safe this season.

Let's see what the Blues do if they do sack Cotterill.
