As the Football League calendar heads into the busy festive period ahead of the January transfer window, there’s still plenty of football to be played between now and the New Year.

With no international break for many in League One, the campaign continues and for Luton Town who are aiming to make it two successive promotions under boss Nathan Jones.

The Hatters currently sit fifth in the standings, just nine points off Portsmouth atop the summit of the table.

It has been a mightily impressive start for the League One outfit this term under Jones who has been with the club since 2016.

First, he guiding them away from the League Two drop zone before automatic promotion the following year.

It has been a stellar couple of seasons with Jones in charge, and Luton supporters will be hoping he can work his magic once more and get the club back to the Championship.

Having been so successful since his arrival at Kenilworth Road, it would be no great surprise should he be linked with jobs further up the footballing pyramid.

The inevitable sacking season is fast approaching as the busiest time of the year draws closer with clubs struggling up and down the land keeping an eye out for potential managerial changes.

With that said here are three possible replacements for the Luton boss if he’s poached from the League One side.

If Nathan Jones was to leave, he might take his assistant with him to any job that comes up, if not, then the natural replacement for the current Luton boss would have to be his number two, Paul Hart.

He has not managed a club since 2015 when he was caretaker boss of Notts County, and before that, his last permanent role was in 2011 at Swindon.

Having learnt and understood how Jones operates and what works for Luton Town, for continuity purposes, Hart would be a logical choice.

Failing to appoint of Paul Hart, should Nathan Jones be poached, another Paul should be in the frame for the job.

And if he is still without a club, Paul Hurst could be an excellent option.

Despite his unfortunate stint with Ipswich Town, Hurst is a lower-league man and could work wonders with Luton - as he did with Shrewsbury - on a small budget.

League One and Two are Hurst’s domains, and he would undoubtedly be a strong candidate to take over if any potential movement at the club occurred.

From one Welshman to another, this is more speculative should Nathan Jones leave, but former Wolves defender Sam Ricketts is currently the boss of National League table toppers Wrexham.

And he is doing a stellar job in what is his maiden managerial voyage.

The Dragons have been mediocre for years in the top flight of non-league football, and Ricketts has moved in and has made them the best team in the league so far this season.

Jones was a relative unknown when he took over a struggling Luton, could Ricketts have the same impact on a side who are doing well should their current boss be poached?
