Rotherham United have settled into Championship life well after their promotion from League One last season.
Paul Warne’s men are currently two points above the relegation zone, and sit 19th in the division after 17 matches.
It has been an acceptable start to the campaign for the Millers who have been tipped as one of the sides that could be back in the third tier come May.
Michael Smith was one of Rotherham’s leading marksmen last term to get them into the second tier, scoring eight goals in their promotion-winning campaign.
Having only managed three this term, and still adjusting to the Championship, the six-foot striker is certainly a talisman for his team.
They are a better side with him in and have a way of playing that benefits the striker’s abilities.
He has been one of their better players, too and with the January transfer window approaching, there could be potential interest in the 27-year-old who still a lot to offer.
If Smith has his head turned and the club sanction a move away, they will not do so until a replacement has been sought.
So if the striker is poached, here are three potential Smith replacements Rotherham must consider.
