James Chester has been one player that has consistently shown impressive form this season despite a sluggish start to Aston Villa's Championship campaign.

The Villa captain has made 16 starts this season, and if his side are to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League, then Chester is likely to be at the very heart of it.

The 29-year-old has formed an excellent partnership alongside Manchester United loanee, Axel Tuanzebe, in central defence, with their understanding growing.

Dean Smith's side are starting to show promising signs and there certainly are reasons to be excited as an Aston Villa fan going forward this season, as you get the feeling that if they can get on a good run of form, they will be one of the most feared team to face in the Championship.

But, with Chester's good form, could bigger clubs come calling in January?

We look at who Villa could target if they were to lose their captain.

Find out who they are here....

The Watford defender has only made four starts for the Premier League side this season and he is sure to be frustrated with his current game time.

The 32-year-old played in 28 matches last season and he would be the perfect replacement for Chester in the Villa defence, adding some leadership, amongst other qualities.

The Reading defender seems to have never really recovered from missing one of the crucial penalties at Wembley in 2017, which saw the Royals miss out on promotion to the Premier League under Jaap Stam.

Moore has slowly started to show signs of recapturing his good form, but in a Reading side that will be fighting against relegation this season, he could be wanting to move.

The Wolves youngster has found first-team opportunities hard to come by in recent seasons.

Hause only made one league appearance for Wolves in the Championship last season, and having not made a single appearance this season, he will surely be looking for a new club in January.

His aerial ability and presence would mean that the central defender would be an excellent addition to Smith's side.
